

Box ScoreWest Palm Beach, Fla. - March 20, 2009 - Fueled by a pair of four-goal performances from Jenn Zubkus and Alexandra Bazzano, the Springfield College women's lacrosse team defeated St. Lawrence, 14-11, on Friday morning in its final game of its Spring Break trip to Florida.
With the win, the Pride finished its Florida trip with a 2-0 record and now stands at 3-2 on the season.
In a back-and-forth affair, Bazzano led the Pride with four goals, while Zubkus pumped in four goals as well. Kaeleigh Lannan added three goals and an assist as well for the Pride attack. Springfield owned a 33-24 advantage in shots and connected on 4-of-7 free position shots.
Lauren McAulay earned the win as she made seven stops in goal.
The first half saw a combined 14 goals as both teams scored at a frantic pace. However, neither team could gather more than a one-goal lead until the Pride put together two-straight tallies in a 37-second span at the 2:33 mark. Goals from Lannan and Zubkus gave SC an 8-6 advantage heading into the half.
St. Lawrence's Julie Wooters brought the Saints within one after she scored 43 seconds into the second half to make it an 8-7 game. From there, Springfield rattled off three unanswered strikes, starting with a Zubkus goal at the 23:07 mark. Lannan and Bazzano then each converted on free-position shots to give the Pride a three-goal cushion with just under 17 minutes left in regulation.
St. Lawrence answered back with two consecutive goals from Kaitlyn Fahsel and Amanda Forbes to make it an 11-9 game with 11:11 on the clock. Bazzano responded for the Pride as she put the game out of reach by scoring on a pair of free-position goals to give Springfield a four-goal lead.
The Saints got within two with 1:55 left after goals from Kim Morse and Nora Langan in the final six minutes but could get no closer. Zubkus closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal with ten seconds left.
The Pride returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when it travels to take on Keene State at 4:30 pm.
Kristen Mullady ‘00, has been named an assistant professor of physical education and head women’s lacrosse coach at Springfield College. A former standout for Springfield’s women’s lacrosse team, Mullady returns to her alma mater to head up a program that went 12-6 and reached the conference tournament championship game a year ago.
