

Complete ResultsBoston, Mass. - October 31, 2009 - A strong team race by the Springfield College men's cross country team was outmatched only by the efforts of MIT as the Pride raced to a second place finish in the New England Women’s and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park.
Junior Brian Fuller finished in 26:01, just eleven seconds behind NEWMAC Champion Hemagiri Arumugam of MIT. Zach Pietras was named the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, and finished in fourth place with a time of 26:31.
David Birdsall finished sixth in 26:40, while Troy French (27:12, 14th place), and Anthony Salvucci (27:32, 18th place) also helped Springfield on its way to a second place finish, its highest ever in the NEWMAC Championships.
MIT continued its dominance of the NEWMAC, taking home its 13th consecutive conference title, scoring three of the top five finishes among individuals. The Pride finished in second place with 41 points. Rounding out the field was Coast Guard (95), WPI (108), Babson (148), Wheaton (169), and Clark (173).
Springfield next competes in the ECAC Championships on Saturday, November 7 in Williamstown, Mass.
