Golf Places Third at Nearby Blazer Invitational

Chicopee, Mass. - October 1, 2008 - Behind a second-place individual finish by senior Greg Levings , the Springfield College golf team finished third out of 13 teams on Wednesday at the Blazer Invitational held at nearby Chicopee Country Club.

Nichols College junior Pat Pio fired a sensational 2-under par 69 and the Bison had all four players score under 80 en route to earning team championship honors in the tournament hosted by Elms College.

Pio posted four birdies in his round, including three in the back nine as the lone golfer in the 63-player field to break 70.  He fired an even-par 36 in the front and followed with a 2-under 33 in the back.

WNEC (310), Springfield (312), Rhode Island College (316), MCLA (318), Becker (326), Westfield State (330), Brandeis (333), Mitchell (337), Elms College (347), Anna Maria (366), Daniel Webster (367) and Newbury (384) rounded out field.

Wednesday's tournament proved highly competitive, as just two strokes separated second from 11th places.

For the Pride, Michael LaJoie tied for 11th with a 76, while Craig DiFranco finished in a tie for 14th after firing a 78. Bryan Anderson's 84 and Jared Slilngerland's 93 rounded out the Pride's scoring on the day.
