

Marietta, Ohio - May 22, 2009 - Junior Steve Headley advanced to Saturday's championship race of the 100 meter dash on Friday afternoon at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Headley ran the second fastest time of the day as he clocked in a 10.68.The junior sprinter cruised to victory in the third heat of the afternoon as he crossed the finish line in a time of 10.68, edging out Dak Kongela from George Fox University, who ran a 10.79.
In the championship race, which will take place Saturday at 2:30 pm, Headley will run in lane five. Delannie Spriggs of Salisbury University ran the quickest time of the prelims with a 10.67. Headley qualified for the NCAA Championships with the fastest time in the country to date, a time of 10.39.
Spriggs and Headley have already squared off once this academic year as the duo met in the championship race of the 55 meter dash at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. Headley took home the race with a time of 6.24, winning by .06 seconds over Spriggs, who clocked in at 6.30.
Headley will have a busy Saturday at the Championships. He is also running in the 4x100 relay at 1:00 pm and in the 200 championship final at 3:35 pm.
