Baseball and Softball's NEWMAC Openers Postponed Due To Rain

Baseball and Softball's NEWMAC Tournament Opener Postponed Springfield, Mass. - April 22, 2009 - The Springfield College baseball and softball teams quest for New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) crowns will be delayed as both squads NEWMAC Tournament openers have been postponed on Wednesday due to impending rain storms.

The softball team, which enters the tournament as the defending conference tournament champion, is the fourth seed and will now take on fifth-seeded Babson at Coast Guard on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 pm. If the Pride are able to win that game over the Beavers, it would advance to play the top-seeded Coast Guard Bears at 5:00 pm.

As for the fifth-seeded baseball team, it will travel to second-seeded Wheaton College on Thursday afternoon. First pitch against the Lyons, which are currently ranked 12th in the country in the latest D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 Poll, will take place at 3:30 pm.
