Sobel, the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Diver of the Year, scored a 513.50 in the finals as he finished third. In his first collegiate meet on the national scale, the sophomore qualified as one of the top eight divers in the prelims as he scored a 481.00 to advance to the championship final. Nicholas Halbach of Merchant Marine won the title with a 524.70.
Teammate Matt Fitzgerald finished 15th with a score of 413.05 en route to earning Honorable Mention All-American honors.
Greg Pearsall competed in his second event of this years championships as he swam in the 200 freestyle. The senior touched in 1:41.78 as he finished 29th overall in the event while swimming in lane five in the fourth heat. Heading into the race, Pearsall was seeded 26th with a time of 1:41.29.
John Taffe enters his 21st season in 2009-2010 as the head coach of the men's and women's swimming teams at Springfield College. Under Taffe’s leadership, the Pride has returned to its status as one of the best collegiate swimming and diving programs in Division III. Read more.
Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 25th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2009-2010. The current NEWMAC Men's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions. Read more.
