Women's Gymnastics Finishes Fifth at ECAC Championships

Collegeville, Pa. - March 7, 2009 - The Springfield College women's gymnastics team finished fifth at the 2009 ECAC Division III Women's Gymnastics Championships on Saturday afternoon at Ursinus College.

A national qualifying event in which the top three teams advance to the NCGA's, the Pride tallied 183.400 points to finish in fifth out of eight schools. Brockport won the event (189.150), Ithaca finished second (187.950), and Cortland took third with a 184.125, just 0.725 higher than the Pride. MIT took fourth with a 183.900.

Springfield had several student athletes earn at-large berths to the NCGA's for their efforts on certain events in Saturday's competition. Jacqueline Mazzola finished tied for third on the vault (9.650) and Ericca Castagna finished tied for fifth (9.625). Both will represent Springfield in the vault, while three members of the Pride earned at-large berths in the floor exercise. Castagna scored a 9.475 as she finished ninth, Christina Pagella tallied a 9.400 as she tied for 13th, and Kayleigh Davis finished in 18th with a 9.375.
