

Springfield, Mass. - May 15, 2009 - Michelle Wlosek and Aimee Cassella continued to rack up postseason awards as they were each named to NEISCA All-Star Teams on Tuesday.The duo was instrumental in leading Springfield College to a NEWMAC Tournament title and the automatic NCAA Tournament bid. Wlosek earned NEISCA First Team All-Star honors as a catcher, while the Cassella picked up honorable mention honors as first base.
Just last week the pair was honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as Wlosek earned First Team All-New England Region honors while Cassella was selected to the NFCA Second Team All-New England Region.
Wlosek led team team and the entire New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference with a .437 batting average, and has been raking in the honors this past spring season. She was just named to the NCAA Division III New England Regional All-Tournament Team. She batted .571 and slugged at a team-high .786 clip as 7th-seeded Springfield won three games and was one of the last three teams standing in the Regional. Wlosek was also named the NEWMAC Player of the Year, and First Team All-Conference. She also was recently named an ESPN The Magazine District I Academic All-American. Besides batting .437, she finished with team-bests 55 hits, 39 RBI's, 7 home runs, 29 walks, 83 total bases, a .659 slugging percentage, and a .532 on-base percentage.
Cassella wound up batting .376, and led the team with 12 doubles and four sacrifice flies. She was also named Second Team All-NEWMAC. She started all 47 games the team played.
Julie Perrelli was been named an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Softball Coach at Springfield College in June of 2009. The head softball coach at Smith for the past three years, Perrelli received both her doctorate (this past May) and her masters in 2004 from Springfield College, where she served as a graduate assistant for the Pride from the 2003 through 2006 seasons.
