

Minneapolis, Minn. -- April 18, 2009 -- A total of six student-athletes represented Springfield College at the NCAA Division I Men's Gymnastics Championships at the University of Minnesota over the past weekend. None advanced to the individual finals, thus a great Pride season came to a close. Head Coach Steve Posner, however, was honored for the second straight year by being named the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Eastern Regional Coach of the Year.Freshman Ty Evans (San Jose, Calif.) and sophomore Josh Fox (Ellicott City, Md.) both competed in the All-Around as individuals for the Pride. Others who competed for Springfield included senior Matt Bolognese (Stony Brook, N.Y.) in the still rings, junior Keith Stumpf (Williamsville, N.Y.) in the vault, senior Andrew Kelly (Marstons Mills, N.Y.) in the parallel bars, and sophomore Matt Freundlich (Westfield, N.J.) in the horizontal bar.
Entering his 28th season as head men's gymnastics coach, Dr. Steve Posner is recognized as one of the most outstanding gymnastics coaches in the East. Posner, who has coached 135 All-Americans and 18 National Champions, led the Pride to another successful season in 2009. He has been named the NACGA Eastern Region Coach of the Year in each of the last two years.
