Women's Volleyball Sweeps A Pair In Second Day of Johnson & Wales Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- September 13, 2008 -- Heather Lively (Roylaston, Mass.) picked up All-Tournament team accolades as the Springfied College women's volleyball team swept a pair of games in the second day of the Johnson & Wales Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Springfield topped Johnson & Wales and Western Connecticut in three games.

The Pride defeated Johnson & Wales by the scores of 25-22, 25-14, 25-20 and cruised past Western Connecticut, 25-17, 25-19, 25-18.

In the win over host Johnson & Wales, Lively led the way with 12 kills, three digs, and three blocks, while teammate Aylene Ilkson (Baldwin, N.Y.) chipped in with nine kills, and an impressive 20 digs in just three games.

In the Pride's final match of the weekend, Lively registered 15 kills while the duo of Heidi Yohe (Deer Park, Wash.) and Ilkson combined for 23 digs. Kelsea Hellyar (Fairhaven, Mass.) directed the Pride attack as she dished out 31 assists in the win.

Springfield returns to action when it opens up conference play at Wheaton. First serve is slated for 7:00 pm.

Joel Dearing Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it.
