Women's Volleyball Splits With Wesleyan and Colby At MIT Invitational

Cambridge, Mass. - September 25, 2009 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team fell to Wesleyan in four games before sweeping Colby at the opening day of the MIT Invitational on Friday evening. The Cardinals bested the Pride by the game scores of 21-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-14, while SC cruised by Colby 25-12, 25-7, 25-8.

The Pride improves to 10-2 on the season and will take on either Williams or NYU on Saturday morning.

Against Wesleyan, Sarah Lang-Rodean continued her impressive play this season as she totaled 13 kills, while All-American Heather Lively chipped in with 12 kills. Leading the defensive charge against Wesleyan was Itza Nieves, who posted a career-best 17 digs for Springfield

In the nightcap against Colby, the Pride came out focused after dropping its second match of the week earlier in the evening. Lively was unstoppable as she pounded out 13 kills and Lauren Torvi controlled play at the net as she totaled six blocks.

Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it.
