

Springfield, Mass. -- October 21, 2009 -- The Springfield College football team has been ranked No. 2 in New England Division III for the fourth straight week. The Pride, now 5-1, is still ranked behind 4-0 Trinity, and just ahead of No. 3 Plymouth St., and No. 4 Amherst.The top six spots remain unchanged. Trinity is still in first with 13 first-place votes and 156 total team points. Springfield is No. 2 with one first-place vote and 137 points. No. 3 Plymouth State (6-1) has the remaining two first-place votes and 129 points, And fourth-ranked Amherst (4-0) is next with 115 points.
In fifth is Williams (3-1) with 91 points, followed by Curry (5-2) with 78 points.
Bridgewater State (5-2) and Maine Maritime (5-1) are up next, tied for seventh, with 61 points. Westfield State (4-3) has moved into the rotation (9th) with 21 poiints. And WPI (3-3) has remained in the top 10 with 17 points.
Springfield will next play at Hartwick Saturday (Oct. 24) at 4 pm.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 28th season as a head football coach in the fall of 2009. He enters his 26th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 25 years (1984 through 2008, inclusive), he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater.
