Women's Track and Field Honored For Academic Success By the USTFCCCA
New Orleans, La. - July 9, 2009 - The academic awards continued to roll in for the Springfield College women's track and field team as it was recently honored as a 2009 Division III All-Academic Track and Field Team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). A total of 100 Division III programs made up the women’s 2009 All-Academic Teams. Shenandoah University led all institutions with a 3.676 team cumulative GPA, followed by Whitworth University with a 3.641 team GPA. Carleton College had the third-highest cumulative GPA with a 3.590.
To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.100 cumulative grade-point average.
The Pride earned the accolade after finishing the year with a cumulative GPA of 3.371. Springfield was one of five schools from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) to take home the honor. MIT (3.520), WPI (3.370), Babson (3.200), and Wheaton (3.110) also were honored for their success in the classroom.

Head Coach Jim Pennington
Jim Pennington enters his 26th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2009-2010. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
