Box ScoreNorth Adams, Mass.- October 8, 2008 – After battling in a physical contest for over 80 minutes, a goal in the 82nd minute from Brett Drake proved to be the difference as the Springfield College men's soccer team slipped past MCLA, 1-0, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
In what was a tightly played physical game that appeared destined for overtime, the Enfield, Conn. native headed home a cross from Mauricio Ferreira (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) that was deflected up into the air off the foot of a Trailblazer defender. The header found the back of the net and ended up being the game winner in a 1-0 victory for Springfield (5-5-1).
Joe Deady (Belchertown, MA) and Richard Massey (Cheshire, MA) both had quality opportunities, but were turned away by Pride goalkeeper Kevin Leahy (Cheshire, Conn.) who earned the shutout. Adam Tarsa made 6 saves in goal for the Trailblazers.
Springfield will now prepare for a crucial NEWMAC game at MIT this Saturday at 2:00pm.
