MIT Downs Men's Tennis, 8-1, in NEWMAC Action
Springfield, Mass. -- April 4, 2009 -- Sophomore Eric Henne won his match at No. 5 singles, but it wasn't nearly enough as the MIT men's tennis team defeated Henne's Springfield College team, 8-1, this afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference match indoors at Springfield College's Field House. With the win, MIT is now 8-1 overall, 1-0 in NEWMAC play. Springfield is now 4-4 overall, 0-2 in league action.
MIT won all three doubles matches to get the ball rolling for the Engineers. Sophomores Kevin Pang (Torrance, Calif.) and Ken Van Tilburg (Kapellan, Belgiium) won their match at No. 1 doubles, 9-7, after trailing 7-4 over senior Andrew Constant (Kingston, N.Y.) and junior Trevor Romanzi (Bay Shore, N.Y.).
MIT won singles matches at No. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6. Pang won a close one at No. 1 singles over Constant, 6-3, 1-6, (10-8) in a super tiebreaker.
Henne, a sophomore from Bristol, Conn., was the lone Pride winner at No. 5 singles over senior Ryan Castonia (Whitehall, Mich.), 6-4, 6-4.

Head Coach Tim Losee
Tim Losee ’05, G’07 was named the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College in August of 2009. A former four-year member of Springfield’s men’s tennis team, Losee returns to his alma mater to pilot both the men’s and women’s tennis programs. Read more.
