

Phoenix, Ariz. - March 18, 2009 - Despite holding a 6-0 lead through the first two innings, the Springfield College baseball team could not hold off Macalester as it lost 11-10 in 11 innings on Wednesday afternoon in the RussMatt Greater Phoenix Invitational.With the loss, Springfield falls to 2-4 on its spring break trip.
The Pride exploded for five runs in the top of the first inning, only to tack on another run across the plate in the second to take a 6-0 lead over the Scots. However, the visitors plated five runs in the third, two in the fourth, and another in the fifth to rally to an 8-6 lead.
The teams then traded two runs each in both the seventh and eighth inning, leaving the Pride down by two heading into the top of the ninth. Springfield would not go away, as it plated two runs in the ninth to send the game to extra innings.
The Scots finally got to relief pitcher Drew Michael as they scored a run in the 11th to take the 11-10 victory.
Michael suffered the loss as he came in to throw 1/3 of an inning, allowing the game-winning run off two hits, while striking out one and walking one. Steve Forbes started the game for the Pride and lasted five innings, allowing eight runs, three earned, while striking out four. Springfield committed three errors on the day.
At the plate, John Procopio went 2-5 with a pair of RBI coming off a two-run homer for SC. Travis Turgeon chipped in with two RBI as he went 2-4 from the plate, while Jamie Mackie went 2-6 with two RBI, a double, and a stolen base. Karl Quist and Mike Robilotto each had a double and an RBI as well in the loss.
