

Springfield, Mass. - May 7, 2009 - Both Michelle Wlosek and Angela Atkins were honored for their success in the classroom as the duo earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honors on Thursday.Wlosek earned College Division Second Team honors as the junior catcher currently owns a 3.48 grade point average in physical education. Springfield’s top player, she was named Third Team All-America, as well as First Team All-Region. Earlier, she had been named the NEWMAC Player of the Year, as well as NEWMAC First Team All-Conference as the team's and conference's leading hitter. This season she owns a .420 batting average to go along with 38 RBI. Behind the plate, Wlosek has not committed an error in 223 chances.
Atkins took home College Division Third Team honors with her 3.75 grade point average in physical education. The Pride's centerfielder was named Third Team All-Region and NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference. This season she is tied for the NEWMAC league-lead in runs scored with 37, has batted .329 and has not committed an error in 68 chances.
Julie Perrelli was been named an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Softball Coach at Springfield College in June of 2009. The head softball coach at Smith for the past three years, Perrelli received both her doctorate (this past May) and her masters in 2004 from Springfield College, where she served as a graduate assistant for the Pride from the 2003 through 2006 seasons.
