Divers Lead The Way In Opening Day of Lion Invitational at TCNJ
First Day ResultsEwing, N.J. - December 5, 2008 - Paced behind an outstanding effort from its diving squad, the Springfield College men's and women's swimming and diving teams had a solid opening day of the three-day Lion Invitational hosted at The College of New Jersey.
Michelle Reggio was one of four Springfield divers to qualify for the NCAA Championships on the day as she was simply outstanding in the diving events. Reggio set a new school record in the one-meter event as she recorded a score of 468.08. Teammate Meghan Kijanka also set a qualifying mark with a terrific score of 465.05.
On the men's side, Brian Sobel also had a standout day for the Pride as he tallied a score of 526.65, while Matt Fitzgerald finished with a 481.35 on the three-meter board. Both scores qualified the duo for the NCAA Championships.
In the swimming events, Aimee Doe continued her solid sophomore campaign as she teammed up with Kaitlin Reilly, Jaclyn Van Waalwijk, and Moira Price to win the 200 free relay in 1:39.97. Doe also took first in the 500 free in 5:18.62.
Meredith Trumbull touched first in the 200 IM in 2:17.36, while Kallie Pottle, Price, Reilly, and Doe finished first in the 400 medley relay in 4:04.07, winning by 0:00.07.
In the men's swimming events, the Pride were unable to take first in any events in the opening day. In the 200 free relay, Matt Manoni, Ryan Mackstutis, Brian Way, and Andrew Blakesley finished second in 1:28.12.
