

Chicopee, Mass. -- April 24, 2009 -- The Springfield College men's golf team placed second with a team score of 325 strokes in the Blazers Invitational at the Chicopee Golf Club today. As an individual, senior Mike LaJoie (Enfield, Conn.) finished second with a 77 for the Pride's low score. Seven teams participated on this 6,742-yard, par 71 layout. The team winner was Franklin Pierce with a score of 320. Springfield was five strokes behind. Following in order were Castleton State (333), Westfield State (351), Anna Maria (358), Becker (365), and host Elms College (373).
Among individuals, Brian Fleckles of Franklin Pierce turned out to be the medalist with a score of 74. He shot a 36-38 on the front and back nines. Lajoie was second with a 40-37=77.
Other scores for Springfield included those of senior Greg Levings (Averill Park, N.Y.) (T7th -- 40-41=81), freshman Jared Slingerland (Berwick, Me.) (T10th -- 43-40=83), Kyle Hicks (Enfield, Conn.) (T13th -- 45-39=84), and Tom McKinnon (T26th -- 44-50=94).
The reigning NECC Golf Coach of the Year, Joe Eadie enters his 16th season as the head men's golf coach at Springfield College in the fall of 2009. Eadie is the head golf professional at the Fenway Golf Range in nearby East Longmeadow, and is in the process of becoming a PGA Professional. Read more.
