

Complete ResultsSpringfield, Mass. --- May 14, 2009 -- After five events on Day 1 of the ECAC Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Springfield College's Blake Track, Wayneburg College of Waynesburg, Penn. leads the event with 32 points. Springfield and MIT are tied for second with 16 points.
After four events of the women's heptathlon, Hazel Briner of MIT leads with 2,653 points. Morgan Jamiel of Wheaton (Mass.) is in second with 2,399 points following the 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200.
Only three others are competing in the heptathlon. They include (with point totals): Diamondo Stratakos of Ithaca (2,238); Joanna Dobeck of RIT (1,939); and Shannon Webb of DeSales (1,590). Webb no-heighted the high jump. Individual winners of each event included Briner in the high jump (1.49 meters) and the shot put (11.53 meters). Jamiel placed first in the 100 hurdles (15.44 seconds), and Stratakos took the 200 (27.61 seconds).
Springfield junior Amanda DiPaolo won the 10,000 meter run with a time of 37:01.28, good for a provisional time to reach the nationals, which will be held next week at Marietta, Ohio. In addition, Christa Johnson of Ursinus won the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:45.92. In the hammer, Julia Hopson of Fredonia State won with a toss of 178-1. Anna Heim of Moravian had an outstanding leap in the pole vault at 13-2 1/4.
But certainly the main story of the afternoon and early evening came in the women's javelin where Waynesburg College came away with a 1-2-3 finish, good enough for 24 of their leading total of 32 points. The winner was freshman Marybeth Rocco at 134-3. Right behind Rocco were teammates Elisha Jones (131-9), and Amanda Stoudt (124-2).
For Springfield, in addition to DiPaolo's 10 points in the 10,000, senior Kelsey Bishop finished third in the hammer to produce another six points.
