

Springfield, Mass. - March 17, 2009 - Four members of the Springfield College wrestling team were recently honored for their excellence in the classroom as they were selected as Scholar All-Americans. For the third time in his illustrious career, Chris Brown was named a Scholar All-American, as were teammates Steve Flathers, Victor Stanziale, and Greg Dussol.As a team, the Pride ranked 17th in the country in terms of team grade point averages. Springfield, which had a team GPA of 3.035, had the third highest average in the New England Wrestling Association as just Williams (3.175) and Wesleyan (3.068) ranked in front of the Pride.
Flathers, an occupational therapy major, wrestled at 149 this year and captured the individual crown at the NEWA JV Championships. Brown, a criminal justice major, reached the NCAA Tournament at 285 during his senior season after earning a wild card at the NEWA Championships. Stanziale wrestled at 174 this season and is a business major, while Dussol, a physical education major, wrestled at 184. Dussol and Brown both served as quad captains this season as Springfield finished fourth as a team at the NEWA's.
Former Springfield College All-American Daryl Arroyo will be entering his 20th season as the head wrestling coach at his alma mater in 2009-10. Under his tutelage, the Springfield College wrestling program has posted a 278-151-6 overall dual-meet record, good for an outstanding .646 winning percentage.
