No. 15 Trinity Slips Past Men's Soccer, 1-0

James Ashcroft Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - October 18, 2009 - A goal by Austin Lan in the 37th minute proved to be the only scoring in the contest as the 15th-ranked Trinity Bantams men's soccer team downed Springfield College, 1-0, in a rainy, windy, and cold Sunday afternoon on Brock-Affleck Field.

The Bantams, who were ranked 15th in the country in the latest NSCAA national poll, improve to 10-1-1 on the year, while the Pride drop to 4-10-1 in 2009.

The weather played a major factor in the game as constant rain proved to make the surface slick and difficult for either team to control the ball.

After controlling much of the play in the first half, Trinity was able to break into the scoring column with just under 9 minutes left in the opening stanza. Lan was able to connect with a pass from Dan Mayemick and find the back of the net for what would prove to be the game-winner.

Springfield had its chances to score in the contest but was unable to convert. For the game, Trinity held a slight 13-11 advantage in shots , while Springfield held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Chris Walton finished with four saves in goal for the Pride, while Grant Schonberg needed to just make one stop en route to the shutout victory.

The Pride are in the midst of the four-game home stand to finish out the regular season and will face Brandeis on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm
