From a Springfield College point of view, a pair of juniors shared the spotlight. Amanda DiPaolo had an outstanding meet. She finished first in the Thursday twilight in the 10,000-meter run with her best of 37:01.28. Then less than 24 hours later, she finished second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:02.81.
The usual star, Nikki Hay, curtailed her activities somewhat, competing only in the long jump, triple jump, and a relay. Hay placed first in her specialty, the triple jump, with an outstanding leap of 40-1 1/4. She also placed eighth in the long jump at 17-1 1/2. Freshman Cherelle Allen, a rising star, placed second in the long jump with a leap of 18-3.
Another who did well was reliable senior Kelsey Bishop in the hammer. She had a toss of 160-9 in that event, finishing third.
In the 4x100, Springfield placed sixth with a time of 48.79. The foursome included Erika Marks, Kelly Murphy, Nicole Reynolds, and Hay.
