

Springfield, Mass. -- May 11, 2009 -- Catcher Michelle Wlosek has been named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Third Team All-American, and was also selected to the New England All-Region selection along with teammates Aimee Cassella and Angie Atkins.Wlosek, who led her team and the entire New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference with a .437 batting average, was certainly the main catalyst in leading Springfield College to a NEWMAC Tournament title and the automatic NCAA Tournament bid. A native of Nutley, NJ., Wlosek was an NFCA Third Team All-American as well as a First Team All-New England Region honoree.
Meanwhile, senior first baseman Aimee Cassella (Southington, Conn.) was named NFCA Second Team All-New England Region, while senior centerfielder Angie Atkins (East Haddam, Conn.) was named NFCA Third Team All-Region.
Wlosek has been raking in the honors this past spring season. She was just named to the NCAA Division III New England Regional All-Tournament Team. She batted .571 and slugged at a team-high .786 clip as 7th-seeded Springfield won three games and was one of the last three teams standing in the Regional. Wlosek was also named the NEWMAC Player of the Year, and First Team All-Conference. She also was recently named an ESPN The Magazine District I Academic All-American. Besides batting .437, she finished with team-bests 55 hits, 39 RBI's, 7 home runs, 29 walks, 83 total bases, a .659 slugging percentage, and a .532 on-base percentage.
Cassella wound up batting .376, and led the team with 12 doubles and four sacrifice flies. She was also named Second Team All-NEWMAC. She started all 47 games the team played.
Atkins finished with a .323 batting average, third best on the team. She led the squad with 158 at-bats, 40 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases (in 12 attempts). She also started all 47 games the team played. Angie was also Second Team All-NEWMAC, and too was named an ESPN The Magazine District I Academic All-America. In a recent 3-1 NCAA Tournament victory over Rhode Island College (May 9), Atkins hit a two-out, two-strike, two-run walk-off home run to win it.
Julie Perrelli was been named an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Softball Coach at Springfield College in June of 2009. The head softball coach at Smith for the past three years, Perrelli received both her doctorate (this past May) and her masters in 2004 from Springfield College, where she served as a graduate assistant for the Pride from the 2003 through 2006 seasons.
