Men's Golf Competes at the 75th Annual NEIGA's on Cape Cod

Brewster, Mass. -- October 21, 2009 -- The Springfield College men's golf team competed at the 75th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships this past Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 19-20) at The Captains Golf Course on Cape Cod. Golf Finishes Third at NECC Championships

DiFranco Leads Golf To 7th-Place Finish at ECAC Championships

About The Team
The Springfield College golf team made history in the fall of 2008. In the inaugural New England Collegiate Conference golf tournament at nearby Chicopee Golf Club, Springfield College won by 30 strokes over runner-up Mitchell with a total of 646. Head Coach
Joe Eadie was named the NECC conference Coach of the Year, while senior
Greg Levings was named the NECC Player of the Year. In addition, senior
Mike LaJoie and sophomore
Craig DiFranco joined Levings on the All-Conference First Team. Lajoie finished in second-place, five strokes off the leader.
In 2007, the Springfield College golf team also performed very well, finishing third of 20 teams at the ECAC Tourney at Chicopee GC. In 2006, the squad finished first in the Franklin Pierce Invitational, 5th (of 17) in the ECAC's, and T19th (of 43) in the New England's. In 2005, the Pride hosted the ECAC Division III Championships at Hampden Country Club. At that tourney, SC registered a very strong team performance, finishing fifth out of 19 competing squads. Led by Levings and Lajoie with identical six-over par scores of 78, the Pride finished with a team total of 315 strokes, just nine off the leaders.
Head coach Joe Eadie, who is entering his 16th season directing SC's golf program in 2009, won the 1997 Kinny Open Tournament in Hartford, Conn., and finished in the top 10 at the Boston Open Tournament three times. He is in the process of becoming a PGA Professional.
The Pride annually competes in the top Division III Tournaments around the Northeast. In the 2009 fall season, SC will hope to compete in the Middlebury Invitational, the Williams Invitational, the Shattuck Invitational (Jaffrey, N.H.), the ECAC Division III Championships, and the New England Championships (Cape Cod).

The reigning NECC Golf Coach of the Year, Joe Eadie enters his 16th season as the head men's golf coach at Springfield College in the fall of 2009. Eadie is the head golf professional at the Fenway Golf Range in nearby East Longmeadow, and is in the process of becoming a PGA Professional.
