SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 6, 2003 – Springfield College sophomore All-American
Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.) was one of five members of the SC men’s track and field team to win an event at the Springfield Track & Field Invitational this afternoon at Blake Track.
There was no team scoring at today’s event.
Gulino, who won the long jump (6.82 meters), was one of two SC field event winners. Sophomore
Matt Acciaioli (Warwick, R.I.) won the shot put (14.98 meters). SC runners won three events. Senior
Jason Jackson (Phippsburg, Maine) ran to first place in the 100-meter dash (10.81), freshman
Billy King (Wilmington, Mass.) placed first in the 200 meters (22.61), and senior
Jon Notary (Bethlehem, Pa.) won the 400 meters (50.40).
On the women’s side, SC senior
Erin Pac (Farmington, Conn.) finished first in the 100-meter hurdles (15.94) and freshman
Meg Young (Hurley, N.Y.) placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:17.18). In the field events, junior
Leyla Williams (Unionville, N.Y.) won the hammer throw (43.7 meters) and senior
Sarah Mitchinson (Haverhill, Mass.) came in first place in the javelin (31.62 meters).

Jim Pennington enters his 26th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2009-2010. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
