

CHICOPEE, Mass., September 9, 2005 - Springfield College sophomore Matt McCarthy (Springfield, Mass.) tied for sixth overall out of 45 golfers, carding a five-over par, 76 (37-39) at Friday afternoon's (Sep. 9) Blazers Invitational at the Chicoppe Country Club. The Pride played well in its first match of '05, finishing in a tie for third with Worcester State out of nine competing squads in the Invitational hosted by Elms College.
SC compiled a total team score of 314, just three strokes behind the champion, Trinity College (311). Castelton finished second with a total of 312.
Andrew Wright played well for the Pride in the Invitational, shooting a 37 on the back nine for a six-over, 77 to finish 10th overall. Kyle Fijalkowski finished in a tie for 17th overall, shooting an 80 (39-41).
SC will next compete in the Middlebury Invitational from Friday-Saturday, September 17-18.

The reigning NECC Golf Coach of the Year, Joe Eadie enters his 16th season as the head men's golf coach at Springfield College in the fall of 2009. Eadie is the head golf professional at the Fenway Golf Range in nearby East Longmeadow, and is in the process of becoming a PGA Professional. Read more.
