Men's Tennis Drops Non-Conference Match at Conn. College, 6-1

NEW LONDON, Conn., April 4, 2006 - Springfield College freshman Andrew Constant (Kingston, N.Y.) and senior Justin Freitas (East Providence, R.I.) won an 8-2 decision at #1 doubles, but it was the Camels of Connecticut College which defeated the Pride in non-conference action this afternoon at Luce Fieldhouse.

Junior Jeffrey Crofts (Beverly, Mass.) and sophomore David Keenan (Scarborough, Maine) combined to pick up a #3 doubles victory, winning a very tight, 15-13 tiebreaker to take the match, 9-8.

Despite winning two of the three doubles matches, however, it was the Camels which swept the singles competition. Conn. College's Ned Minevitz and Andrew Meyer swept combined play to lead the Camels, as Minevitz won at #2 singles over Freitas (4-6, 6-1, 6-2), and Meyer captured a #6 singles victory by defeating Keenan (6-2, 6-2). Minevitz and Meyer then joined up to win a #2 doubles match, 8-5. With the win, Connecticut College improves to 3-4 overall on the season.

The Pride falls to 2-3 overall on the campaign with the loss, as SC will next host MIT on Thursday afternoon, April 6, in its 2006 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener.
