About The Team
Traditionally, SC women's cross country ranks very high among the regional and national lists in Division III. Academically, under Head Coach
Jim Pennington, Springfield College has earned NCAA Cross Country Coaches Association honors each year for the past 25 years, having accumulated team grade-point averages above 3.2. Four different athletes have earned NCAA post graduate scholarships, as numerous SC runners have earned first and second team honors on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/
ESPN The Magazine All-Academic squads over the years.
The Pride running program welcomes all runners regardless of ability level. The desire to be on a team, support that team, and train and compete are the criteria for team membership. Running takes place on campus; in city parks and golf courses; and in the mountains surrounding the campus. SC utilizes pool running to supplement workouts and also as an additional tool for training. The College has certified strength and conditioning coaches who work with our runners to develop strength in the core of the body and legs. The College's spacious new
Field House, not to mention new
Wellness Center (see the Facilities Photos on this page), both of which opened in September, 2008, has been a boon to the cross country and track & field programs.
In the fall of 2008, Springfield had two runners -- junior
Amanda DiPaolo and sophomore
Lacey Cartier -- earn All-Regional honors. Cartier has been named All-ECAC in each of her first two years at Springfield.
