

ANNAPOLIS, Md., March 26, 2006 – Senior Andrew Malaby registered the top finish for any Springfield College athlete at the ECAC/EIGL Men’s Gymnastics Championships held at the U.S. Naval Academy this past Saturday and Sunday (Mar. 25-26).
Malaby, a senior from West Warwick, R.I., finished with a score of 8.80 in the still rings to claim 5th place.
In addition, sophomore John (J.J.) Ferreira of Naugatuck, Conn., finished with a score of 8.60 in the floor exercise to claim 7th in that apparatus.
It is hopeful that both will make the Regional competitions which will be held at the University of Oklahoma next week.
As a team, Springfield finished 6th of 8 in the competition with 186.50 points.
Entering his 28th season as head men's gymnastics coach, Dr. Steve Posner is recognized as one of the most outstanding gymnastics coaches in the East.
