About The Team

The Springfield College women's basketball program has been one of the top programs collegiately in Division III in New England for a good number of years, especially since Naomi Graves took over the head coaching reigns. A model of consistency, Graves will be entering her 21st season at the helm at SC in 2011-2012.

The Pride has now earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament and won the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference tournament title in five of the past 11 years. There is little doubt that Springfield has been the dominant team in the conference since the year 2000.

In 2008-09, the Pride finished 16-11, led by a pair of seniors in NEWMAC Player of the Year Corey Finch and in 1,000-point career scorer Lauren O'Connor.

In the 2007-08 campaign, Graves led the team comprised of two 1,000-plus career point scorers in seniors Christine Cotter and Tara McCarthy and eight freshmen to the NEWMAC Tournament Championship game. Of those eight freshmen, Rachelle Walker was honored as the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year.

In 2005-06, the Pride achieved a 22-7 overall mark and recorded a 12-1 record in the NEWMAC, winning 12 straight conference games during the season. Forward Courtney Parvin earned NEWMAC Player of the Year honors that campaign.

During the 2004-2005 campaign, SC tied the school record for wins in a single season (25) and made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III 'Elite Eight'. The Pride, which reached the 'Sweet 16' of the 2002 NCAA Division III Tournament, compiled a 25-4 record that year, including a school-record 17 consecutive wins while sweeping the NEWMAC regular-season and tournament titles.

Springfield College was ranked 19th in the final USA Today/ESPN/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division III Poll of the 2002 season. That was the program's highest national ranking as a Division III program, and its best since the 1981-1982 season, when SC was ranked as high as fourth in the Division II national poll.
