Cross Country Finishes Seventeenth at NCAA New England Regionals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 12, 2005 -- Springfield College senior
Meg Young (Hurley N.Y.) took third place and earned a berth in the NCAA Division III National Cross Country Championships as the Pride finished seventeenth, today, at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships at Veterans Golf Course hosted by Springfield College.
Young earned her second trip to the National Championships (2003) as she covered the six-kilometer course in 21:44. Young set a personal record in her best Regionals performance over her four year career. Young will travel to Delaware, Ohio on Saturday November 19 for the National Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.
Young was followed by sophomore
Alyssa Brigham (Penacook, N.H.) who covered the course in 24:24 to finish 94th overall. Pride freshman
Lara Dalidowitz (Southington, Conn.) finished just behind Brigham in 24:26 as she crossed the line in 96th place. Junior
Jackie Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.) and senior
Jessie Zaccaro (Washingtonville, N.Y.) rounded out the top five for the Pride in times of 24:40 (108th place) and 25:47 (159th), respectively.
The Pride took seventeenth place overall, in the 48-team field, with 460 points. Williams won the meet with 48 points, followed by Colby (81), Amherst (88), and Middlebury (129).
On the men’s side, Pride junior
Tetsuji Kambara (Osaka, Japan)placed 82nd overall as he covered the five-mile course in 27:14. Kambara was followed by junior
Ryan Palmison (Plymouth, N.H.) (103rd place, 27:37), junior
Patrick Hepper (Bernardsville, N.J.) (120th, 28:01), senior
Scott Barton (Fort Plain, N.Y.) (121st, 28:01) and sophomore
Ian Wright (Colonie, N.Y.) (123rd, 28:09).
SC scored 549 points to finish seventeenth in the 43-team field. Tufts won the meet with 62 points, followed by Wesleyan (118), and Keene State (132).
