Men's Swimming and Diving Loses to Middlebury
complete resultsSPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 23, 2002- Springfield College senior diver Alison Mellage (Union, N.J.) qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championship with a first place, 288.75-point performance in the three-meter dive, but it wasn’t enough as the Pride fell to Middlebury College 153-147 this afternoon at the Linkletter Natatorium.
Middlebury College junior Lizzy DeWitt captured both the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle to lead her team past Springfield.
Springfield College sophomore Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.) won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.14 to keep the Pride close in the contest. Her performance also provisionally qualified her for the NCAA's at the end of the season.
On the men’s side, Springfield College freshman Daniel Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle, and also the 200-yard butterfly, but it wasn't enough as the Panthers defeated the Pride, 147-141.
With this loss, the Springfield College women’s team falls to 2-2 while the men go to 1-2 on the season.

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 25th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2009-2010.
