CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - March 2, 2003 - Springfield College senior
Craig Dolan (Edison, N.J.) finished first in two events and swam a leg on three victorious relays, while freshman
Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) won two individual events and was part of a winning relay to lead the Pride to third place at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Swimming & Diving Championship at MIT. The host Engineers won the meet with 920 points, followed by Coast Guard (771) and SC (657).
Dolan won the 200 individual medley in a meet-record 1:55.68, and the 100 freestyle (47.29). He also swam legs on the meet-record setting 200 (1:42.27), 400 (3:09.31) and 800 freestyle (6:55.41) relays. The 800 freestyle relay provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship.
Moran provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in the 1,650 freestyle (16:24.91) and the 500 freestyle (4:41.24), while swimming on the winning 800-freestyle relay.
Freshman
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) swept both the 1-meter (530.40) and 3-meter (498.50) diving events with meet-record performances, and was named diver of the meet. Shaw's 1-meter dive is a school and conference record. SC head diving coach
Peter Avdoulos, the four-time national diving coach of the year, earned NEWMAC Diving Coach-of-the-Year honors. SC senior
Dan Bartholomew (Willits, Calif.) finished second in both diving events with 438.85 and 417.95 efforts, respectively.
Sophomore
Louis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I.) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship with his victory in the 200 freestyle (1:42.27) while swimming legs on the winning 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relays. Sophomore
Jeff Doornweerd (Meriden, Conn.) won the 50 free in a pool-record 21.52 and swam legs on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Sophomore
Blake Leshnick (Suffern, N.Y.) was a member of all three victorious relays.

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 25th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2009-2010. The current NEWMAC Men's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
