No. 25 Women's Volleyball Sweeps WPI, 3-0; Earns Top Seed for NEWMAC Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Nov. 1, 2003- Springfield College senior middle blocker Roxanne Breuler (East Haddam, Conn.) compiled 14 kills to lead the No. 25 Pride to a 3-0 (30-21, 30-10, 30-21) victory over host WPI in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s volleyball action in Blake Arena this afternoon.

The win clinched the Pride (30-2, 9-0 NEWMAC) its second regular-season conference championship in three years along with home-court advantage throughout the upcoming conference tournament. It is also the second 30-win season in three years and fifth under 15th-year head coach Joel Dearing.

Springfield won its 17th-straight match, which ties the 1978 team for the third longest win streak in school history. The 1993 squad won a school-record 20 straight.

SC will faceoff with WPI again on Tuesday (Nov. 4) at 7:00 p.m. in Blake Arena in the first round of the NEWMAC Tournament.

Joel Dearing Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach. Read more.
