No. 25 Women's Volleyball Sweeps WPI In NEWMAC Quarterfinals; Dearing Registers 400th Win At SC
BoxscoreSPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Nov. 4, 2003- Springfield College sophomore opposite Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) compiled 15 kills and a .636 hitting percentage to lead the No. 25 Pride to a 3-0 (30-13 30-16, 30-15) victory over WPI in the first round of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Volleyball Tournament this evening in Blake Arena.
The win also gave Pride head coach Joel Dearing his 400th victory as the head coach at Springfield.
Sophomore setter Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) was credited with 30 assists as the Pride (31-2) advanced to the tournament semifinals for the third year in a row.
Springfield will host the tournament semifinals on Friday (Nov. 7) and the championship match on Saturday (Nov. 8). The top-seeded Pride will take on #4 Coast Guard in the evening’s second semifinal at 7:30 p.m. after the first semifinal match between #2 Wellesly and #3 MIT at 5:30 p.m. Sunday's championship match is set for 4:00 p.m. in Blake Arena with the winner clinching an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Dearing has compiled a 400-145 (.735) record in his 15 seasons at Springfield. His career mark stands at 533-259 (.674) in 23 seasons, top-10 all-time in Division III. Dearing registered a 133-114 record in eight seasons at Roger Williams.
Springfield remains a perfect 12-0 at home this fall while tying the 1995 team for the second-longest winning streak in school history at 18. Dearing’s 1993 team won a school-record 20-straight matches on its way to the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals.

Head Coach Joel Dearing
Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
