Women's Volleyball Upends MIT, 3-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Oct. 7, 2003- Springfield College sophomore outside hitter Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.). totaled 16 kills and 19 digs to lead the Pride to a 3-2 (30-28, 30-25, 24-30, 22-30, 15-8) victory over MIT in a battle of two of the top teams in the New England region.

Springfield senior middle blocker Roxanne Breuler (East Haddam, Conn.) added 16 kills and seven blocks for the Pride (19-2, 5-0 NEWMAC), ranked No. 3 in the latest NCAA Division III Regional Poll.

Sophomore setter Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) was credited with 47 assists and 11 digs as the Pride improved to 6-0 this season at home.

MIT, ranked second in the region, was led by freshman outside hitter Nydia Clayton (Nanuet, N.Y.) who totaled a match-high 20 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Caroline Jordan (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) compiled 11 kills and a match-high 24 digs for the Engineers (16-3, 4-1 NEWMAC)

With the win, Springfield remains atop the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) standings, along with Wellesley, which was a 3-0 winner versus Babson in other conference action.

Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it.
