No. 23 Women's Volleyball Too Much For WPI, 3-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 18, 2004 – No. 23 Springfield College swept the WPI Engineers this afternoon, 3-0 (30-10, 30-8, 30-13), in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference women’s volleyball match in Blake Arena.
Sophomore libero
Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) collected 10 service aces, one short of the school record, to pace the Pride. Springfield (10-0, 2-0 NEWMAC) has won 31 of its last 32 matches, dating back to last season.
Junior All-American setter
Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) was credited seven kills and 23 assists. Senior outside hitter
Christine Jones (Wallingford, Conn.) led the Springfield offense with eight kills.
The Pride compiled a .539 hitting percentage, while holding the Engineers to a -.108 average.

Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
