Coast Guard Outlasts No. 23 Women's Volleyball, 3-2

NEW LONDON, Conn., -- Sept. 21, 2004 -- Springfield College sophomore libero Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) had 39 digs, two short of a school record, but it was not enough as Coast Guard defeated the Pride, 3-2 (23-30, 33-31, 29-31, 30-21, 16-14) this evening in a New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference match.

SC junior All-American Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) pounded out 21 kills, as the Pride lost for the first time in the '04 campaign. The Pride (10-1, 2-1) had won 31 of its last 32 matches dating back to last season.

The Bears (8-0, 3-0) were paced by freshman Corinne McCormack who had 33 kills, 24 digs, and five service aces. Senior Tracy Speelhoffer added 24 digs and 11 kills.

The Pride returns to action this Friday and Saturday, September 24-25, at the MIT Invitational.
