Women's Volleyball Downs Wheaton College, 3-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sept. 24, 2002 – Springfield College senior outside hitter Heather Schlitz (Huntington Station, N.Y.) registered 14 kills and 11 digs as the Pride defeated Wheaton College, 3-1 (28-30, 30-22, 30-18, 30-26), in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s volleyball action in Blake Arena.

Springfield junior middle blocker Roxanne Breuler (East Haddam, Conn.) totaled 14 kills on 25 swings, and made only one hitting error for a .440 hitting percentage to lead the NEWMAC’s top hitting team. Freshman Alecia Vaccari (Winstead, Conn.) was credited with 52 assists and 10 digs for Springfield (10-1, 2-1 NEWMAC)

Wheaton (3-7, 0-3 NEWMAC) freshman middle blocker Marriah Vengroff (Storrs, Conn.) led the Lyons with 12 kills, while junior setter Darcey Vertucca (Boulder, Colo.) added 33 assists, 10 digs and 5 service aces.
