Women's Volleyball Clinches Top Seed With 3-0 Sweep

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Oct. 28, 2003- Springfield College sophomore outside hitter
Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) compiled 15 kills and a .407 hitting percentage to lead the Pride to a 3-0 (30-17, 30-13, 30-15) victory over Mount Holyoke College in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s volleyball action in Blake Arena this evening.
Sophomore setter
Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) was credited with 27 assists as the Pride (29-2, 8-0 NEWMAC) wrapped up the top seed for the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament, which starts next Tuesday (Nov. 4).
Springfield finishes the regular season with a perfect 11-0 record at home this fall while extending the fourth-longest winning streak in school history to 16 games. The 1993 team won 20 straight games.
A win in its regular-season finale at WPI on Saturday (Nov. 1) would clinch the Pride its second regular-season conference championship and 30-win season in the last three years. SC finished the 2001 season 31-7.
Senior
Andra Petrica (Timisoara, Romania) led the Lyons (12-13, 3-5 NEWMAC) with 10 kills.

Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
