No. 23 Women's Volleyball Finishes Fourth at MIT Invitational
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., September 23-24, 2004 - Springfield College junior Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) was selected to the All-Tournament team to lead the No. 23 Pride to fourth place at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Invitational this weekend.On Friday, SC topped Vassar College in straight sets (30-18, 30-17, 30-15) and then edged Tufts University in five games (30-28, 30-24, 22-30, 24-30, 15-12). Against Vassar, Reves notched 10 kills while junior setter Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) dished out 27 assists. Reves then went on to record 25 kills in the nightcap against Tufts. Senior Christine Jones (Wallingford, Conn.) and sophomore Mary Kathryn O’Neil (Liverpool, N.Y.) added 17 and 14 kills, respectively, while Vaccari tallied 62 assists and 23 digs. Sophomore libero Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) had 20 digs as well.
On Saturday, the Pride fell to No. 1 New York University 3-1 (28-30, 30-25, 30-21, 30-19), and No. 18 Williams College, 3-1 (30-23, 28-30, 30-18, 30-14). Reves put down 14 more kills versus NYU while Jones added 15 against Williams.
SC will travel to Clark on Wednesday, Sept. 29, for a NEWMAC tilt before it heads to Juniata to face the third-ranked Eagles on Friday, Oct. 1.

Head Coach Joel Dearing
Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
