Women's Volleyball Shuts Down Smith, 3-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 12, 2004 - Springfield College Junior All-American Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) totaled 14 kills and seven digs to lead the Pride past Smith College, 3-0 (31-29, 30-23, 30-24) this evening in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s volleyball action in Blake Arena.

Sophomore libero Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) was credited with 27 digs for the Pride (17-5, 5-1 NEWMAC), while junior All-American setter Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) compiled 44 assists.

Smith (11-8, 4-2 NEWMAC) freshman outside hitter Sara Hoffman led the Pioneers with 12 kills.

Head Coach Joel Dearing

Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach. Read more.
