NORTHAMPTON, Mass., Oct. 25, 2003 -- Springfield College upset Williams, 3-1, in the championship match of the 2003 Volleyball Hall of Fame Classic this afternoon at Smith College.
The Pride (28-2), which entered the tournament ranked second in New England, rallied from a one-game-to-none deficit to beat Williams, the top-ranked team in the regional poll. SC won the final three games of the match 30-26, 30-28 and 30-26, to extend its winning streak to 15 matches.
SC sophomore opposite
Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) was the tournament's most valuable player. Reves totaled 19 kills against Williams. Sophomore setter
Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) earned all-tournament team accolades.
This was quite a day for the Pride, which avenged its only two losses of the '03 campaign. In the semifinals, SC dropped MIT, 3-1, for the second consecutive time thanks in part to junior
Christine Jones (Wallingford, Conn.), who registered 20 kills.
