Women's Volleyball Places Third In VBHOF Classic

NORTHAMPTON, Mass., Oct. 23, 2004 - Springfield College junior All-Americans Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) were named to the All-Tournament team after leading the Pride to third place at the Volleyball Hall of Fame Classic this weekend.

SC battled Tufts University but fell 3-2 (30-25, 29-31, 30-28, 27-30, 15-12) in the first match of the championship round. Reves paced the Pride with 16 kills and 20 digs while Vaccari dished out 60 assists. Junior libero Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) contributed with 32 digs.

In the consolation match against Amherst, Reves and senior Christina Jones (Wallingford, Conn.) both tallied 15 kills in a 3-1 (26-30, 30-22, 30-27, 30-27) win. Sophomore Mary Kathryn O’Neil (Liverpool, N.Y.) added 13 kills for SC.

Freshman Kara Ramos (Milford, Conn.) gathered a team-high 24 digs, while Hettrick added 21 and Reves totaled 16.

Joel Dearing Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it.
