Women's Volleyball Finishes Second At Williams Invitational
Williamstown, Mass. Oct. 5, 2002 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team finished second at the Williams College Invitational after three-straight victories on Saturday (Oct. 5).
After falling to the host Ephs on Friday night, 3-0, the Pride bounced back with 3-0 shutouts of Colby-Sawyer, Endicott and Saint Joseph's (Maine) to improve its record to 14-2 on the season.
Junior libero Leah Gass (Suffern, N.Y.) was named to the all-tournament team after anchoring the SC defense. She was credited with a match-high 15 digs in the Pride's win over Endicott.
Ranked No. 5 in the New England Region, Springfield will travel to No. 2 MIT on Tuesday (Oct. 8) in a key conference match, and will host the six-team Tom Hay Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 12) in Blake Arena.

Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
