Women's Volleyball Advances To NEWMAC Semifinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 2, 2004 - Springfield College senior middle blocker Christine Jones (Wallingford, Conn.) totaled a match-high 13 kills to lead the third-seeded Pride to a 3-0 (30-15, 30-19, 30-16) win over sixth-seeded Wheaton College in the first round of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament this evening in Blake Arena. SC advances to play second-seeded MIT or seventh-seeded Clark on Friday (Nov. 5) at 7:30 p.m. in the semifinals, hosted by Coast Guard.

Junior All-American Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) added 10 kills while junior All-American setter Alesia Vaccari (Meriden, Conn.) was credited with 32 assists for the defending-conference champion Pride (23-7).

Wheaton freshman outside hitter Chelsea Fleher paced the Lyons with eight kills and nine digs to finish the season with a 13-16 record.

Top-seeded Coast Guard defeated No. 8 Mount Holyoke, 3-0, in other quarterfinal action, while No. 2 MIT hosted No. 7 Clark, and No. 5 Wellesley traveled to No. 4 Smith this evening.
