No. 8 Football Ties School Record In Win

PLYMOUTH, N.H., Oct. 18, 2003-- Junior quarterback Ryan Sylvia (Marion, Mass.) rushed seven times for 109 yards and four touchdowns Saturday afternoon to lead No. 8 Springfield College to a 62-0 Freedom Football Conference victory over Plymouth State University in the Homecoming game at Currier Field.

The win, which gives SC a 7-0 overall record and a 4-0 FFC mark, is the 11th consecutive regular-season victory dating back to Oct. 11, 2002. This ties the school record for consecutive regular-season wins, which spanned the 1965 and '66 seasons.

The Pride, which entered the game ranked No. 1 in New England and No. 8 in the nation in Division III, rushed for 433 yards, marking the seventh time SC has eclipsed the 400-yard mark in the last two seasons.

Plymouth State drops to 0-6 and 0-4.

Sylvia also completed his only pass of the day for a 45-yard touchdown as the Pride rolled up a 27-0 first quarter lead. Junior quarterback Michael Judge (Chatham, N.J.) added a pair of second-quarter TD runs as the Pride took a 41-0 lead by halftime.

The Pride scored touchdowns on its first six possessions and never looked back. The visitors finished with a 478-79 advantage in total offense. Junior halfback Kevin Domurat (Forestdale, Mass.) joined Sylvia in the 100-yard rushing department for SC, finishing with 100 yards on six carries.

Sophomore linebacker R. J. Perkins (Bridgeport, Conn.) and sophomore fullback Andre Clayton (Manchester, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for the Pride. Perkins returned a Panther fumble 37 yards for a score and Clayton found the end zone with six minutes remaining.
