

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., December 14, 2005- Springfield College senior guard Derek Yvon (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored a team-best 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range to go along with five steals and four assists as the Pride cruised past Connecticut College, 83-64, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening (Dec. 14) in Blake Arena.
SC (2-7) opened the game on a 20-9 run, capped by an Yvon three with 9:22 to go in the opening stanza. The Pride extended its lead to 43-29 by the end of the first half, and never looked back, building a game-high lead of 29 points (68-39) with 8:42 remaining in the contest.
Conn. College (6-3) sophomore forward Charles Stone led the Camels with a double-double, scoring a game-high 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field while grabbing 10 rebounds. Pride senior Mike DeCesar (Acton, Mass.) scored 15 of his 17 points in the opening half, as the forward added four rebounds.
SC received solid contributions from senior forward Joel Aponte (Windsor, Conn.) with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists, and sophomore point guard Jamaal Gibbs (Norwalk, Conn.) with 10 points.
The Pride improves to 2-7 overall on the season and will next host the 2006 Holiday Inn-Naismith Classic on Sunday and Monday, January 1-2. SC will host Colby-Sawyer College in the opening round on Sunday in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
Charlie Brock in 2009-10 will enter his 12th season as the head coach at Springfield College. Brock’s achievements as a coach are certainly impressive, as he has taken three schools to the NCAA Division III Tournament and has an overall, 29-year record of 394-363 for a winning percentage of .520.
