Trinity College Rallies Past Men's Basketball, 67-61

HARTFORD, Conn., December 8, 2005 - Springfield College senior forward Mike DeCesar (Acton, Mass.) scored a team-best 19 points on 3-of-6 shooting from three-point territory to go along with four assists, but it was Trinity College which rallied past the Pride, 67-61, on Thursday evening (Dec. 8) at Trinity's Oosting Gymnasium.

Trinity College (6-2) senior forward Tyler Rhoten became the Bantams' all-time leading scorer on the night, finishing the contest with a game-high 22 points and 1,832 for his career to date. In the opening half, Rhoten carried Trinity, scoring 14 points in the first stanza as the two teams went into the break tied at 29 apiece. DeCesar paced the Pride with 11 at intermission.

Midway through the second half, SC used a 14-4 run to take a 57-50 lead, as senior forward Brian Riley (Worcester, Mass.) scored eight of his 12 second half points to lead the Pride. Riley provided a big spark off the bench for SC in the second half, scoring 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field while grabbing eight rebounds (four offensive).

Trinity answered back quickly, however, outscoring the Pride 17-4 over the final 4:45 to steal the contest from SC, 67-61. Junior guard Kino Clarke and freshman forward Aaron Westbrooks led the Bantam surge with a combined 15 of those 17 points. Clarke put Trinity ahead for good at 61-59 on a 15-foot jumper with less than a minute on the clock, and then combined with Westbrooks to make six free throws in as many attempts to seal the win.

SC falls to 1-6 overall on the season and will next travel to Williams College for yet another non-conference match-up on Saturday afternoon, December 10, in a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
